Did that word just make you shudder, get nervous, or shout for joy? Lol.
I am happy to live a vegan lifestyle. The most common question I get asked is why did I choose to do so.
As only a few of you know, I had an eyelid condition for about 4+ years. Just red eyelids all the time, and often swollen and the skin wasn’t healthy. I got allergy tests done to no avail. The dermatologist gave me a strong ointment that you weren’t supposed to use on your eyelids as it thins them. Wtf. Nothing was working. The eyelids stayed red. I did heal the patched on the inside of my elbows by switching to Tide Free, so that was a bonus. With the eyes, I eventually decided that I was going to see if I could heal myself with my internal body cleansing methods.
As you know, cleansing your body is a vital practice for optimal health. I had January mostly free and got right to it that first week. I started with the colon cleanse, and had intended to then do a parasite cleanse. The food restrictions were so severe that I decided “Might as well go vegan, too.” On top of not ingesting any animal products or by-products, I was also cutting out flour, sugar, alcohol, coffee, and any processed food. I did not eat a lot of flour or sugar in the first place, so that was not too hard. I also chose to cut out fruit as well as carrots, beets, corn, and potatoes because of how they convert to glucose in the body. I switched all of my cosmetics and body products to vegan as well.
I cured my eyelids in three weeks. Need I say more?
In leading up to this decision, I had gone vegetarian for one year prior. I was not a huge meat eater, but I certainly never thought anything about ingesting it. When I was 19 or 20, I did go vegetarian for two years. In those days, there were only two or three products that were vegetarian to replace the usual fare (ie burger patties, TVP). I became known for making awesome chili that no one could tell had no meat in it! Whaaaaa? Seriously! I did mention it was only two years, because I did get lured back to meat by, you guessed it, bacon. Ah, yes, good ole bacon. That and Christmas turkey with all the stuffing.
Of course there are times that I miss eating these foods, but I am thankful for my state of health and the many lives I have saved. I decided around one month in that I was not going to be one of those vegans who tell other people how to eat, and that they shouldn’t eat this or do that. It seemed to me that veganism had that strike against it for making people feel criticized for how they themselves were choosing to nourish their bodies.
It is not my life mission, nor has it ever been, to tell people how to live. I get asked a lot of questions in the work that I do for guidance as to how to live. I am willing to share my wisdom and experience, but mostly encourage people to trust themselves and decide for themselves. After all, aren’t we supposed to know ourselves better than anyone else?
The funniest thing I think I heard someone say was, “You don’t eat anything!” I laughed and said, “I eat whatever I want, whenever I want.” The key is changing what you want to eat. And now that I feel so great, why would I ever go back?
Thank you for sharing time. I will definitely be talking more about vegan living and nutrition.
Love,
Dawn
